Saturday, September 6th 2008, 3-7 PM, Lake Elmo MN: Washington County 7th Annual Bluegrass Festival, Lake Elmo Park Reserve (1515 Keats Ave N). Come out to Lake Elmo Park Reserve for live music from Sans Souci Quartet, Sawtooth Bluegrass Band, Charlie Parr with the Black Twig Pickers, and Nuvo Buffalo. There will also be family events including exhibits, food vendors, and camping. The festival is free with a vehicle permit ($5/day $25/year). The Sparrow Quartet featuring Abigail Washburn, Bela Fleck, Casey Driessen and Ben Sollee are known for their mixture of old-time music with Chinese lyrics and melodies. Tuesday, September 9th 2008, 7:30 PM, Cloquet MN:  Bill & Kate Isles with Special Guest April Verch, County Seat Theater Company Performing Arts Center (2035 S Hwy 33). Continuing the collaboration that began with the recording of "The Shores of My Hometown", Canadian Fiddler April Verch will be spending nearly a week in the Duluth area recording on Bill & Kate's upcoming duet CD and doing evening shows with them. This first concert will kick off a three night run of shows where the Isles' will perform their popular songs backed by a band including Verch, Duluth's Ted Heinonen on mandolin and Les Hazleton on bass. $12/$15. An annual bluegrass gospel festival, this year featuring Marty Raybon, The Johnson Family, and The Platte Valley Boys. Valerie Smith has become an ambassador of bluegrass music and Liberty Pike is an amazingly talented band and features Becky Buller, a multi-instrumentalist and incredible songwriter from St James MN.
